Send a Client Handoff They Can Use Without Another Meeting

The project is finished. Your client opens the folder and asks which file to use. A clear handoff can prevent that extra round of work and make the next project easier to start.

Put the usable file first

Create a delivery folder with obvious names such as final, editable source and supporting notes. Include only the versions the client needs. If you retain working drafts, keep them separate so an old export does not become the one someone publishes.

Write a small operating note

Explain where the files live, how to open them and any decisions the client needs to make. Call out permissions, fonts, dependencies or expiry dates that affect use. Confirm ownership and access arrangements against the agreement you already made.

Close with a clear next step

Ask the client to confirm receipt and list any remaining review items. State how revisions will be handled under your agreed scope. Remove unnecessary access after the handoff is complete, following the client’s process.

Make it useful today

What is the one question clients usually ask after you deliver? Put its answer in your next handoff.
