INTERVIEW READY • CHECKLIST
A strong remote interview setup is less about expensive equipment and more about removing distractions. The interviewer should be able to see you, hear you, and focus on what you are saying.
Your goal: create a calm, reliable frame that keeps the attention on your experience.
24 hours before
- Confirm the time zone and meeting link.
- Install or update the video app.
- Rename your display with your real first and last name.
- Test the camera, microphone, speakers, and internet connection.
- Place your resume and the job description within reach.
Build a clean camera frame
Put the camera close to eye level. Face a window or lamp instead of placing bright light behind you. A blank wall, tidy corner, curtain, or softly blurred background works. Remove anything that could pull attention away from the conversation.
Make your sound dependable
- Close windows and silence nearby devices.
- Tell people in the home when the interview begins.
- Use wired earbuds if your computer microphone sounds distant.
- Keep water nearby, but avoid eating during the call.
Keep a backup plan
Charge your phone, save the interviewer’s email, and know whether you can join by phone if the internet fails. If a technical problem happens, explain it briefly, fix what you can, and continue. Calm problem-solving can leave a better impression than pretending nothing happened.
Ten minutes before
- Close unrelated tabs and notifications.
- Check your appearance in the camera preview.
- Open your notes, resume, and two questions for the employer.
- Take three slow breaths.
- Join about three to five minutes early.
You do not need a studio. You need a tested connection, a clear frame, and enough preparation to focus on the conversation instead of the technology.
