Five Documents to Organize Before Starting a Second-Chance Job Search

A job opportunity can move quickly. Organizing important documents before you apply makes it easier to complete background checks, onboarding, payroll, and identity verification.

Start with identification

Locate a current photo ID, Social Security card or approved alternative, and proof of address. Check expiration dates and begin replacement requests early.

Collect employment records

Write down prior employers, dates, supervisor names, training certificates, and reliable references. Keep the information in one secure document for faster applications.

Prepare supporting information

Have your résumé, education records, licenses, court paperwork relevant to employment, and any certificates of completion available. Only provide sensitive documents through verified employer systems.
